Review: American New Releases

2013 Grenache, El Dorado

91 Points: Winemaker Chris Pittenger made this varietally true grenache from four vineyards ranging in elevations from 1,300 to 2,800 feet.  The volcanic soils of the Sierra Foothills have a wine with meaty red-cherry flavor and aromas of juniper and roses.  It’s rich and ripe, but its lusciousness is deliciously contained in the gravelly tannins.  Open it for a grilled Berkshire pork chop, now or in a few more years.
